Below is a message from the Whatcom County Health Department

Dear community member,

Every five years, the Whatcom County Health Department prepares a Community Health Assessment that describes the current state of the county’s health. We know that people in different parts of our county experience unique opportunities and concerns, so as we complete this year’s Community Health Assessment, we are also preparing reports that take a closer look at how health varies by geography. These “Community Descriptions” are shorter assessments that examine health indicators specific to the distinct communities within Whatcom County, defined for this purpose by school district boundaries.

Community Descriptions won’t be complete until we have a chance to incorporate qualitative data gathered from people who live or work in each community. We are hosting a community listening session on September 20, from 10am-noon at the Blaine Public Library to collect this input, and we’d like to invite you to attend.

At the listening session, you’ll have the opportunity to see Blaine, Birch Bay, and Point Roberts’ community health data and tell us what health issues matter to you. During this facilitated meeting, we'll share the data we've collected, give you a chance to review it, and ask you to share the story behind the numbers and what you know about the health of your community. Your feedback will be integrated into the final report, which can be used to shape programs, services, and policies that impact health and well-being.

All are welcome, and the meeting is in an accessible location. Please RSVP to health@co.whatcom.wa.us by September 17, if you would like accommodations for sign language, assisted listening devices or communication in an alternative format.

Using our Facebook event or the attached flyer and social media posts, you can also share this event with others you think we need to hear from.

Your voice matters, and we hope you’ll take time to share your thoughts with us. For more information, contact us at health@whatcomcounty.us or (360)778-6000.

Sincerely,
