Blaine residents will likely soon be able to enjoy a new taproom planned to be constructed at 665 Peace Portal Drive.
The taproom will be function as a restaurant and event center, featuring floor to ceiling windows offering views to spectacular sunsets on the bay. In addition to offering live music and dancing, the main floor will be available for wedding receptions, corporate seminars, and service clubs. Eight residential units are also proposed for this property.
The taproom, known as the Gateway Taproom and Grill, is a creation of Gary Slavin, who will manage both the restaurant and the event center.
The location had previously been home to a vacant building demolished in 2019. On Monday July 27, Blaine City Council voted to authorize City Manager Michael Jones to accept an offer and enter into a purchase and sale agreement with the Nimbus LLC subject to final review of purchase and sale agreement by the City Attorney.
“I wanted to purchase 665 Peace Portal Drive to ensure that the harbor and marina can be seen when you are strolling along. Let there be light!”, said Mike Mulder of Nimbus, LLC. “I want to create a commercial space at street level where one can look all the way through the building out to the ocean beyond, with large overhead doors to let the sea breezes roll in.”
Work on the project will begin as soon as feasible to meet incentive deadlines.
